WHAT IS AN ILOK – WHAT DOES ROKLOCKER PROTECT

SO WHAT IS AN ILOK AND WHAT DOES IT DO?

An iLok is USB device that stores software licences for iLok compatible software. It’s basically a key that authorizes audio software.  It is the alternative to authorising software with a serial number.

They are Mac and PC compatible.

A vast amount of software is now authorized via an iLok.  Pro Tools itself is authorised via an ilok.

There are 4 types of iLok.  Generation 1, 2, 3 and 4.

The 1st genertion iLok could hold 118 individual assets/licences.

iLok 2 – 500 assets/licences.

iLok 3 and 4 – 1,500 assets/licences.

Each plugin you purchase may come with a RTAS, TDM, AU or VST version and each type counts as 1 asset!  Things like plugin bundles can eat up space quick.

Check your iLok account to see how close you are.
